Compact Legislation
The Republican River Basin Compact was signed by officials from Nebraska, Kansas, and Colorado in 1942. This compact was enacted to have a consensus of appropriated water for each state, to assist with construction of Federal storage projects for irrigation development, and to have a better plan after the flood of 1935 devastated the area.
In 2002, the Final Settlement Stipulation outlined allocation issues between Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska. The document discusses many items including surface water allocation, accounting procedures, and dispute resolution information.
The Republican River Compact Administration (RRCA) is made up of one member from each of the states that are part of the Republican River Compact (Colorado, Kansas and Nebraska). The purpose of the RRCA is to administer the compact and allocate the waters of the Republican River between the three states.
