Republican Riber Basin Water and Drought Portal

Weather and Agriculture

There are a variety of resources for monitoring the effects of weather on agricultural production in the Republican River Basin:

The Weekly Weather and Crop Bulletin
This Bulletin is jointly prepared by the U.S. Department of Commerce, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, and U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Bulletin provides information on weather, climate and agricultural developments worldwide. It also has detailed charts and tables of agrometeorological information that are appropriate for the various seasons.

The report includes degree days, temperature, precipitation, crop planting progress, crop development, and harvesting progress. You can look at the Crop Progress and Condition Report for each of the three states by clicking on them: Colorado, Kansas, and Nebraska.

Drought Impact Reporter
The National Drought Mitigation Center maintains a national archive of news stories and reports on the effects of drought, which is updated on a daily basis.

The United States Department of Agriculture
Their site offers a variety of information. You can view maps that feature county crop yield by state, production by country, crop weather, and crop acreage animations. There is also a Crop Production Report.

Each of the three states has a Farm Bureau to assist farmers. They provide agriculture education, risk management, economic opportunities, rural development, and more. Click on the state of your choice for more information: Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska.
